Steven J. “Edgar” Richter, age 63, of Breese, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022 at home, sur- rounded by his loving family. He was born July 11, 1958 in Breese, son of Casper and Dorothy Richter, nee Loepker. Steve will be sadly missed by his fiancée Gerrie Rheinecker of Breese; siblings, Tom (Karen) Richter, Randy (Tracy) Richter, Duane (Melissa) Richter, all of Breese, and Kathleen (Tim) Hodges of New Baden; nieces and nephews, Melissa (John) Beck- er, Lauren (Dustin) Melton, Brenndon (fiancée Tori Brokering) Richter, Baylee Richter, Jason (Danielle) Richter, Kyle Richter, Cody (friend Mariah Markus) Richter, Joshua (Nicole) Hodges, and Jordan Hodges; several great-nieces and great-nephews. Steve is also survived by his uncle and godfather R. Joe Richter, aunts and uncles - Barb Richter, Lorene Niemeyer, Frances Loepker, Herbert Loepker, Ralph and Ethel Petermeyer, and Edna Woltering, 70 first cousins from the Loepker and Richter families along with many, many great friends. Steve grew up and proudly worked on the Richter family farm. After high school, Steve went to work at Hexacomb Corp. in Trenton for 29 years and decided to change careers to sell real estate. For the next 21 years, Steve sold numerous houses in the area while working for Strano and Associates and several years during his time achieved the $1,000,000 club. Steve was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Breese, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 1239 in Aviston where he was a past two- time commander, current vice president of the Breese Historical Society, Heart- land Polar Riders Snow- mobile Club, Realtor Association of Southwestern Illinois (RASI), and the National Association of Realtors. Steve absolutely loved being outdoors and in the sunshine. His hobbies included snowmobiling, snow skiing, boating, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and putting his green thumb to work in his back- yard flower gardens. Steve had a fun-loving personality, a true love for life, and cherished spending time with family and friends. A celebration of life was held yesterday after the visitation at the American Legion in Aviston.
